Requirements
Below you will find a description of the requirements you will need to meet to be approved by the APPR.
1. Foundational Education (University Degree)
Practitioners must possess a university-level degree in an approved mental health discipline:
- Counselling
- Psychology
- Psychotherapy
- Social Work (Accredited Mental Health Social Workers only)
2. Clinical Registration
Applicants must demonstrate active clinical membership with one of the following professional bodies:
- Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)
- Australian Psychological Society (APS)
- Australian Counselling Association (ACA)
- Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)*
(Accredited Mental Health Social Workers only)
3. Psychodynamic Training
In addition to the foundational education requirement (minimum degree level), a minimum of 300 hours of post-degree clinical training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is required.
4. Personal Psychotherapy
Demonstrate at least 150 hours of personal experience in receiving individual psychodynamic psychotherapy, over a period of up to four years.
5. Supervision
Demonstrate a minimum of 150 hours of psychotherapy supervision
6. Clinical Experience
Demonstrate a minimum of 1000 clinical hours of psychotherapy practice
