The APPR
The Australian Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Register (APPR) is dedicated to maintaining standards of psychodynamic psychotherapy in Australia. Our independent register includes highly trained psychodynamic psychotherapists who have undergone rigorous education, clinical experience, and supervision in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
The Australian Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Register ensures that our registered psychodynamic psychotherapists have completed a minimum of five years of education in mental health. This extensive training equips them with the knowledge and skills needed to provide exceptional therapeutic services. Additionally, our members have accumulated substantial clinical experience, received extensive supervision, and engaged in personal psychotherapy to deepen their understanding and enhance their practice.

Requirements
To join the register Psychodynamic Psychotherapists must:
- Possess a university-level degree in an approved mental health discipline (Counselling, Psychology, Psychotherapy and Social Work)
- Be actively registered as a practising mental health clinician (APS, PACFA, ACA, AASW)
- Completed additional graduate/post-registration training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (minimum of 300 hours)
- Demonstrate a minimum of 1000 clinical hours of psychotherapy practice
- Demonstrate a minimum of 150 hours of clinical supervision
- Demonstrate a minimum of 150 hours of individual psychodynamic psychotherapy experience
- Undertaking regular supervision, and continuing professional education
Professional Recognition
Approved practitioners are entitled to use our protected title badge, signifying their commitment to the standards of psychodynamic psychotherapy. The “Registered Psychodynamic Psychotherapist” title badge, assures the public of the clinician’s dedication to quality care and professional development.
